No, these are not southern pine beetles, which only attack standing, live pines. Sounds like your "wormwood" is living up to its name! Most likely, they are insects known as powderpost beetles, which leave a small circular hole and sawdust in furniture when they emerge. Check the Internet for attack symptoms and control recommendations for powderpost beetles, a common pest of dried hardwood.
